Lighthouse High School, founded in 2003 in the city of Orlando Florida. The founder Dr. Ted Ridoré had a passion for literacy and a desire to help reduce the statistical students who had dropped out of formal High school due to circumstances in life. Dr. Ridore is determined against all odds the help those who are yet still have a burning desire to complete their High School education, earn it. Dr. Ridore’s zeal and desire to educate, inspire, and motivate people to learn was birthed out of his own life experience. He too, did not earn his HSD until much later in his age. He wants to make a difference, you can too!
Dr. Ridoré was born in Jacmel, Haiti and raised in Port-au-Prince Haiti, on October 3, 1953. He is the 7th child of his siblings. He was illiterate until the age of 17, until one day God sent a Missionary from France that taught him how to read and write. He started learning the alphabets under a leaky porch.
At the age of 22, God saw fit to bring him to the United States. He would like to emphasize that it was God, because he nearly died in transit. This showed him that he had a purpose. He was so excited about his new found literacy that he enrolled for his first ESOL class in 1978experiencing formal education at Rockland Community College in Rockland County, New York where he learned the English language. With just enough English to get by, he later enrolled in a trade school to learn auto mechanics in order to improve his financial status and allow him to support his family that he left behind in Haiti.
This passion for education motivated Dr. Ridore to teach other people how to read and write their name for the first time. Dr. Ridore documented has taught thousands people of divest ethnic backgrounds to read and write. He taught them in Libraries, parks, churches, and have volunteered for local literacy programs. Dr. Ridore later on enrolled in various colleges and universities, and through much discipline, drive and determination; he now holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Communication and Education, two Master degrees in Education and Family Counseling. He also holds a Ph. D. in Philosophy, Ed.D. in Education, and Th.D. in Theology.
In 1979, he began a ministry by holding Bible Studies in people’s homes, libraries, and parks, and in 1991 he became a Pastor. Through pastoring and teaching, he saw the hunger and thirst that people had for God’s Word. This hunger and thirst in the people inspired him to start Cornerstone Christian University in 1999, now known as Cornerstone University of Florida He also founded Cornerstone and Lighthouse High School. Dr. Ridore has dedicated his life and resources not only to teaching people the Word of God but also how to read and write. He has also given out numerous scholarships to those who couldn’t afford the tuition so they can get the precious gift of education.
He truly echos the voice, heart, and cry of God, which states, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” and he knows that he has been ordained to educate people in every nation in the word of God, and in all aspects of life. He thanks God for all his accomplishments and he know that if he can do it, you can do it too! We will do it together. In the word of President Obama, “Yes We Can”
