History

Lighthouse High School: A Legacy of Second Chances and Educational Excellence

Founded in 2003 in Orlando, Florida, Lighthouse High School was established by Dr. Ted Ridoré, a visionary educator with a deep passion for literacy and a commitment to supporting students who had previously dropped out of traditional high school due to life circumstances.

Dr. Ridoré, having experienced similar challenges in his own educational journey, understands the importance of perseverance and second chances. His mission is to provide students with the opportunity to complete their high school education and achieve their academic goals. Through dedication, inspiration, and unwavering support, Lighthouse High School empowers individuals to succeed—because education should always be within reach.

Accommodations for Students with Disabilities

In compliance with federal and state laws, Lighthouse High School provides accommodations for students with disabilities to ensure equal access to education. Adult students must self-identify and request the necessary services, which may include:

  • Adjustments to instructional methods, materials, and assessments.
  • Flexible scheduling and time accommodations.
  • Adaptations to the learning environment.
  • Assistive technology and specialized communication support

All accommodation requests and provisions will be documented and kept confidential.

Accreditation & Recognition

Lighthouse High School is officially registered with the Florida Department of Education as a private Standard High Diploma Granting institution. To verify our registration, please visit the FLDOE website, select Orange County, and locate Lighthouse High School in the directory.

Important Notice for Admission Counselors

Before denying admission to Lighthouse students, please carefully review the following federal statement:

“The U.S. Department of Education does not have the authority to accredit private or public elementary or secondary schools, nor does it recognize accrediting bodies for such schools. However, it does recognize accrediting agencies for institutions of higher (post-secondary) education. If an accrediting body recognized for higher education also accredits elementary or secondary schools, the Department’s recognition applies only to post-secondary institutions.”
